My Story
My Story
My journey probably started out just like yours. I was born in Baltimore, MD. We didn't stay long as my father got a job in Atlantic City, NJ. My parents divorced in 1980 and off we went to Florida! My mom and I ended up in a small town near the Kennedy Space Center on the Atlantic Ocean. I was the only child, though I have an older half brother from my dad's first marriage.
I had a typical middle class lifestyle one would expect growing up in Florida. I was constantly in the ocean or the river where I learned to surf and sailboard. I'd get to visit my brother in Colorado where I got the snowboarding and mountain biking bug.
Early on, I professed that I wanted to become a doctor. I love helping others. I've always had a passion for health and the human body. However, as high school graduation loomed on the immediate horizon, I turned my focus to international business, not really knowing what I wanted to do with my life. That is until my freshman year of college at Florida State University when I blew out the ACL in my left knee and learned all about physical therapy - the hard way! I transferred to the University of Florida for my Junior and Senior year, majoring in Physical Therapy.
By the time I graduated as a Physical Therapist, I'd had every job imaginable to help pay the bills. Lawn service, landscaping, restaurant, retail, construction - the list goes on and on. You name it, I'd done it! What I knew was that A) I never wanted to work as an hourly employee ever again and B) I wanted to help to help others live happy, healthy lives. I had the opportunity to work with professional athletes and public figures from all over the world at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic in Vail, CO, quickly establishing a reputation for helping these patients extend their careers.
Life's trials weren't over yet though. My father died of cancer in May of 1998 and I moved back to Florida to take care of my mother who was also diagnosed with cancer. I was blessed to meet my wife Danielle soon after moving back to Florida. We got married 2 years later. I went into pharmaceutical sales working for GlaxoSmithKline in an attempt to increase my salary while allowing more flexibility of my schedule to care for my mom. She passed away in May of 2000 and I proceeded to become a basket case.....
I needed an outlet and quickly found one in cycling. Training and racing become my "therapy". I went on to race successfully for 15 years, racking up numerous wins in mountain biking and road racing including 5 Florida State Time Trial Championships from 2007-2011. This led me to meeting my coach and good friend, Simon Kessler. I never realized how important this meeting would be to my life's direction.
Danielle and I had our son Lance in January of 2005. By 2011, he was growing up so fast it seemed like a blur. I remembered my own childhood with both divorced parents constantly working. I felt like I was following in their footsteps, hearing about the events in Lance's life but not getting to experience them. I remember thinking how unfair it was that society accepts that parents typically work just to pay someone else to raise their children. Maybe you can relate.
It was January of 2011 and the world economy was in a tailspin. Century-old companies were disappearing overnight and unemployment was reaching record highs. Personal wealth was cut in half for most Americans and the future was bleak. What others didn't realize about me was that despite making round after round of layoffs without losing my job, I was in my own miserable jail. I had on the proverbial "golden handcuffs" with a job that paid the bills, but did nothing to satisfy my passion or mission. Over 65% of my pharmaceutical colleagues lost their jobs in a 3 year period!
Simon called me up and asked me to take a look at a product he was suggesting to his coaching clients. Yep! I'd heard THAT one before! However, he mentioned a CLINICAL STUDY and an ABC Primetime investigative news clip. I was intrigued and took a closer look. This would be the 28th "Opportunity" that I'd checked out, but the study and news clip made this one different. In March of 2011 and I said "YES" to an industry that I'd said "no" on multiple other occasions.
Fast forward to now and it's been a life-changing journey! I was able to "retire" from my pharmaceutical career in October 2012 and never look back. I've met thousands of new people. Many of them have become close friends. I've had the opportunity to travel all over the world to share the message of time and financial freedom. I've fallen in love with personal development attending events like Eric Worre's Go Pro and Tony Robbins' Unleash the Power Within & Date with Destiny which has opened the door to speaking in front of over 6500 people. I've also learned what complete time and financial freedom is - and fallen in love with it!
I am super excited about the future. What I am most excited about is how I can use what I've learned to help others. To help them grow and develop. To help them learn. To help them achieve their goals and to help them turn their dreams into reality. Is this person you? If so, stop dreaming and start living! Shoot me a message and your contact information here. I'll respond quickly. I look forward to connecting with you.
